It's great to have Gabriel Dax - world traveler, unhappy spy - back. This is an engaging espionage tale as well as a wonderful character study.  Even if you don't usually read spy stories, this is not to be missed.

    Boyd has other very fine novels - Any Human Heart  and Love is Blind  are both whole-life stories that are moving, funny and well worth your time. But don't miss Restless either. Hell, just read all he's written.
